Toy car play guide
Play mats for Hot Wheels sized cars
Looking for a road mat for a collection of small toy cars? Here is how to check the scale, choose a route and find a play space that works.
Are these play mats suitable for Hot Wheels cars?
Our illustrated tracks are designed with 1:64 scale toy cars in mind. Many standard Hot Wheels cars are around that size, so they can be fun to use on the printed roads. Toy cars vary in width and length, and our mats are not made by or affiliated with Hot Wheels.
The designs are printed play surfaces: children can drive their own cars along roads, make pit stops and invent destinations. The mat does not include the toy cars or connect to plastic track sets.
Explore the play mat themesWhat to check before buying
- Match the cars to the illustration. Compare the cars your child owns with the roads shown in our design images. A wide fantasy vehicle may take up more road than a small 1:64 car.
- Measure the floor space. Leave enough room to sit beside the mat and move cars around it. Exact mat dimensions and options appear in the individual Contrado listings.
- Choose a theme they enjoy. Forest routes invite expeditions, drift tracks invite cornering stories, and rally tracks invite stages and pit stops.
- Check the product details. Review the live listing for material, care, delivery, age suitability, price and returns before ordering.
Ideas beyond racing
Ask your child where a car is going and what happens if a road is blocked. A forest route might become a rescue mission; a bend might lead to a hidden campsite. Give them room to decide the next move. See more screen-free play ideas.
Quick answers
Are toy cars included?
No toy cars are included unless an individual Contrado listing expressly says otherwise. Images show examples of play.
Will every Hot Wheels car fit the roads?
Car sizes vary even within a brand. These designs are created for 1:64 scale play, but check the design against the cars you own.
